This commissioned work takes my traditional interpretation of the  🙌 Blessed Holy Mother🙌—defined by her luminous golden halo and quiet reverence—and moves it into something deeper, bolder, and more enigmatic.
Set against a deep navy-black field, the Virgin emerges beneath an intricately illustrated veil. Its ornate details become part veil, part armor, part sacred textile. Her mantle is adorned with celestial starbursts and symbolic embellishments inspired by the visual language of a vintage card deck, creating a subtle game of discovery within the painting. Hidden throughout are Bible verses and sacred references meant to reveal themselves slowly to the person who lives with the work.
The traditional gold halo remains—but here, it feels less delicate and more commanding. Gold, black, crimson, and ivory create a visual tension between devotion and power, femininity and strength, tradition and reinvention.
This is the Blessed Mother as I imagined her through a more masculine edge: mysterious, protective, commanding, and beautifully untouchable.
